Nimbuzz is looking for a Technical Product Manager Mobile Applications to join our Product Management team. This team has the leading role in defining the product vision and coordinates the implementation of all Nimbuzz applications. Currently the following 9 platforms are supported by Nimbuzz: Symbian, iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Java MIDP, WAP, Flash, PC, Mac but more are coming… The Product Manager shall be responsible for a subset of these platforms.
The Product Manager shall have the leading role in defining the product vision. This vision shall support both the company's overall strategy and goals and will help Nimbuzz broaden its mobile reach. The Product Manager gathers and prioritizes product and customer requirements, analyses the market and competition, and is responsible for product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle. This requires working closely with Development, Architecture, Marketing and Product Design. Excellent communication and analytical skills are needed as the Product Manager will work with people from all cultural backgrounds and different levels of technical/business knowledge. Na vele jaren is er eindelijk een nieuwe versie van de browser markup language, namelijk HTML 5. De specificatie is nog niet afgerond maar onder aanvoering van Google en Apple wordt daar hard aan gewerkt. Verschillende browsers wachten daar echter niet op en hebben al verschillende delen HTML 5 geintroduceerd. Naarmate de HTML 5 spec volwassener wordt zal de ondersteuning ervan in browsers alleen maar toenemen.
HTML 5 is een grote stap voorwaarts. Het biedt onder andere de volgende nieuwe APIs: 2D drawing, media playback, offline storage and drag-and-drop van bestanden. Daarmee wordt het een reëel alternatief voor Flash.
Nimbuzz is zeer benieuwd naar de mogelijkheden en onmogelijkheden van HTML 5 als platform voor Nimbuzz clients. De opdracht is om de mogelijkheden in kaart te brengen en te onderzoeken wat de voor- en nadelen zijn van HTML 5 vergeleken met bv Flash (bv ten aanzien van cross browser compatibiliteit). De student zal dit doen door middel van het bouwen van een proof-of-concept in HTML5; een Nimbuzz client die verschillende Nimbuzz features zal ondersteunen, zoals chat, presence en het delen van bestanden. Dit alles uiteraard afhankelijk van de beschikbare HTML5 functionaliteit. Het ontwikkelproces zal iteratief zijn.
We zoeken voor deze opdracht een pragmatisch ingestelde student, die zowel zelfstandig als in een team goed kan werken en pro-actief te werk gaat. Als stagiar kom je te werken in een jonge, innovatieve dynamische omgeving met een informele sfeer. Wij staan open voor de ideeën en initiatieven van de student als bijdrage in het project.

Mobiele telefoons worden steeds meer multifunctionele multimedia apparaten die niet meer alleen voor bellen en SMSen worden gebruikt, maar ook voor het luisteren en bekijken van muziek en films, het delen van files, navigeren, surfen, chatten, etc. Het gevolg hiervan is een behoorlijke toename in batterijverbruik. Een battery moet het minimaal een dag volhouden, oftewel 16 uur. Minder dan dit is onacceptabel.
Nimbuzz wil graag dat gebruikers de hele dag online kunnen zijn, oftewel de Nimbuzz applicatie moet een hele dag kunnen draaien op een mobiel zonder dat de batterij leeg raakt. Het batterijverbruik van de Nimbuzz client moet dus zo laag mogelijk zijn waardoor het noodzakelijk is om de applicatie op een slimme manier om te laten gaan met stroomverbruik, netwerkverkeer maar ook door het gebruik van efficiente algoritmes.
De opdracht is het meten en analyseren van het stroomverbruik van de Nimbuzz applicaties en Nimbuzz adviseren hoe de clients geoptimaliseerd kunnen worden. Nimbuzz beschikt over geavanceerde apparatuur om stroomverbruik te meten. De opdracht bestaat uit de volgende onderdelen:
De student zal aansluitingen maken voor verschillende telefoons waaronder iPhone, Android en BlackBerry. Afhankelijk van de studierichting en de stageduur kan de opdracht worden uitgebreid of worden aangepast. Een mogelijke uitbreiding is het programmeren van een test applicatie die bepaalde tests automatisch kan uitvoeren.
De student zal begeleid worden door medewerkers die veel kennis hebben van meten en analyseren van stroomverbruik.

The architect will report to the CTO and work within the Nimbuzz Tech Office. Tech Office is responsible for the technical design of the Nimbuzz architecture, both client and server side. Tech office works together with product management on defining new features and translates the functional specifications written by product managers into technical specifications. The architect will define the technical requirements of the core Nimbuzz architecture and all related Nimbuzz services. These technical requirements will be used by the Nimbuzz development department as a basis for implementation. The architect will be responsible for reviewing the code once delivered by development to determine whether or not it meets Nimbuzz quality standards.
