Mughal-e-Azam was started in year 1944 and completed in mid 1960. It took 15 years to complete the movie. When it was released, it broke all the records of that time and become the highest-earning bollywood movie of all time. It won one National Award and 3 Filmfare awards.
The Coloured version of Mughal-E-Azam is released in year 2004 and this too breaks many records and the got a good response from the viewers across country and overseas too. Music was rearranged with the help of Music Director Uttam Singh who has created Magic with his music in Dil to Pagal Hai.
Mughal-e-Azam was a love saga of Prince Saleem and a Dancer Nadira (Who was honored with the name "Anarkali" by King Akbar). Later she was sentenced to death by the emperor by being entombed alive.

If asked, have you heard the song of Mughal-e-azam, the first song which pops up in your mind will be "Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya" which was sung beautifully by Melody queen "Lata Mangeshkar" and performed by "Madhubala". This song is still ruling the hearts of People. The song was half picutrised in black and white and half in Color. Viewers still remember the mirror effect and picturisation of this song. Lata Mangeshkar was told to sing in a bathroom to render a part of the song that had glazed tiles and then recorded the music to get the echo effect.
Mohe Panghat Pe Nandlal, Chhed gayo Re... another EPIC song was picturised on beatiful actress Madhubala who has stolen the hearts of many. This song was objected by one of the director of that time as the movie was mostly Mughal movie and cannot have a Hindu Gods song as it will not suit. Naushad and director K Asif has made a situation where Queen Jodhabai was celebrating Janmashtami festive in the Fort with king Akbar.
Zindabad, Aye Mohabbat Zindabad was sung by Maestro Mohd Rafi with chorus by 100 artists which also set a record of maximum no of people for Chorus. There is a dispute on number, as some people claim that it was sung by 1000 artists and not 100
The Music was composed by Naushad and songs were written by Shakeel Badayuni which has set a benchmark.
